Meet the experts

Dr John Burke
Chief Medical Officer, AXA Health
Responsible for medical policy and strategy, Dr Burke leads a team of doctors, nurses, pharmacists and auditors to provide expert medical advice and take action to prevent avoidable harms to customers. His focus is on evidence-based medicine, value-based commissioning, service design, supply chain management and regulatory oversight. After qualifying from Oxford University, Dr Burke worked in the NHS as a Medical Doctor for five years and a further 18 years as a GP before joining AXA Health in 2018.

Sophie Bonnel
Corporate Affairs Lead, AXA Health
Sophie leads Corporate Affairs for AXA Health, which includes media relations, reputation management and public affairs. She has worked at AXA for seven years, including in the UK Public Affairs team and in the UK&I CEO Office. Before joining AXA she worked for a Public Affairs consultancy supporting a range of clients primarily in the justice, payments and charity sectors.

Sarah Taylor
Head of Specialist and Practitioner Relations, AXA Health
Sarah graduated as a physiotherapist from St Thomas’ Hospital London and has around 30 years’ experience working in healthcare, for the NHS, private hospitals, Occupational Health and insurance. She leads our specialist and practitioner strategy where she works with her team to develop initiatives that, through collaboration and insight with healthcare professionals, ensures the delivery of better-quality healthcare for our members and clients.

Francesca Bennett
Wellbeing Proposition Lead and Service Design, AXA Health
Francesca has over 10 years of experience in the wellbeing space and began her career as a Physiologist, delivering health assessments, going on to develop AXA wellbeing services, including AXA Health’s Health Coaching Pathway. Her passion is focussed on Preventative Health and its impact on the quality of life and health longevity through different life stages. She has an MSc in Human and Applied Physiology from Kings College London.

Charles Byrne
Managing Director, HBSUK
Charles has led the development of key client and Consultant relationships in the NHS and the private sector for several years. As deputy CEO of HBSUK, he also leads on a number of specific strategic projects focussing on changing and enhancing patient pathways and delivery systems.

Dr Ash Bassi
Consultant Gastroenterologist, HBSUK
Dr. Bassi is a highly experienced gastroenterologist specialising in luminal gastroenterology and therapeutic endoscopy. He holds a Doctorate of Medicine (MD) from Liverpool University. As the core gastroenterologist in the colorectal cancer multidisciplinary team at HBSUK, Dr. Bassi focuses on bowel cancer prevention and management, and is an accredited colonoscopist for the National Bowel Cancer Screening Programme.
Dr. Bassi also serves as the clinical lead for the Cheshire and Merseyside Endoscopy Network, NHSE/I lead endoscopy advisor for the Northwest, and is also Deputy Medical Director at MWL Teaching Hospital. His research interests lie in Pharmacoeconomics.

Johnny O'Connor
Chief Customer Officer, Spectrum.Life
Johnny has worked in healthcare for over a decade in various leadership roles across mental health and primary care and is experienced in leading scaled change within healthcare systems and healthcare delivery teams.
At Spectrum.Life, Johnny leads commercial and operational activities in Ireland and is accountable for global operations.
